It seems like every website these days has a "buying guide" for every product under the sun. From scooters to smartwatches to ebooks, there's a buying guide for everything. But as a snarky geek, I'm here to tell you that buying guides are overrated.

Outdoors Magazine's Latest Issue: Meh

Take the latest issue of Outdoors magazine, for example. The cover promises "Electric Scooters: The Ultimate Buying Guide" but let's be real, if you need a guide to buy an electric scooter, you probably shouldn't be buying one in the first place.

Apple Watch vs. Fitness Tracker vs. Kindle vs. Analog Watch

The endless barrage of buying guides doesn't stop there. Want to know whether to buy an Apple Watch, a fitness tracker, a Kindle, or an analog watch? Just Google it and you'll find a million buying guides telling you the same thing. Spoiler alert: they all do different things and it's up to you to decide what you need.

Hacking Chatbots and Artificial Intelligence

And don't even get me started on the buying guides for voice assistants and artificial intelligence. I mean sure, you could follow a guide to set up your fancy new ChatGPT chatbot, or you could just hack it yourself for a more satisfying experience.

Phones, Chargers, and Shoes, Oh My!

Even the buying guides for accessories and peripherals are a waste of space. Do you really need an article telling you the pros and cons of wireless charging or which brand of phone case to buy? And don't even get me started on the buying guide for shoes - if you're buying running shoes, just go to a damn store and try them on.

Culture Guides and HBO

And let's not forget the culture guides. Tell me, do you really need someone else's opinion on which HBO show to watch or which portable charger to buy? Or are you capable of making those decisions on your own?

Artificial Intelligence and Electric Bikes

Even the buying guides for more niche products like electric bikes and neural networks are overrated. If you're looking to buy an electric bike, just read a few reviews and make an informed decision. And if you're interested in artificial intelligence, skip the buying guides and go straight to the source - read up on OpenAI and Google's latest chatbot research.

Streaming Services and Television

Last but not least, let's talk about the buying guides for streaming services and television. I mean, do you really need someone to tell you to watch Stranger Things on Netflix or The Crown on Amazon Prime? Just pick a damn show and start streaming.

In conclusion, buying guides are overrated. Do some research, read some reviews, and make your own decisions. And if all else fails, just follow your interests and go down the rabbit hole. Who knows, you might just learn something new.
